Attendees learned the importance of essential oils’ affect on our mind and body. As well as contributing fragrance and feel-good, essential oils can have wonderful effects such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibiofilm and anti-aging. In this seminar, we learned how, and to what extent, essential oils are absorbed by the skin; how to effectively use them to address skin problems including acne, fungal infections, psoriasis, rosacea and sun damage, and how to make up simple preparations with safe yet effective ingredients.

Avoiding adverse effects is of course important, and was covered in detail. In addition to many essential oils, we examined the benefits of certain absolutes, CO2 extracts and aromatic fatty oils, such as argan, calendula, pomegranate and tamanu.

We smelled some of the less common oils, absolutes and CO2 extracts discussed, and some of Robert’s recommended finished blends.

Subject areas covered included:

• How and why plants make essential oils
• Understanding essential oil chemistry
• Essential oil chemistry in relation to soap
• Doses, mixing and measuring
• Essential oil quality & integrity
• Microbial balance & protection
• Sun damage & photoageing
• Acne & dryness
• Redness, itching and other sensitivity issues
• Allergy & photosensitization – how to avoid them!
• Safe dilutions for specific oils

This seminar was a lecture/slide presentation with discussion. The emphasis was on what the research shows, especially clinical data, often with photographic evidence. Extensive handouts were provided.

Also included in the seminar were several blending projects in which students helped put together essential oil blends for a gel, a lotion, a facial exfoliant and a facial oil, each for a different skin type.

Other Feedback:

The seminar is informative and I’m inspired to learn more. The products we made are awesome! I would recommend this seminar to anyone interested in aromatherapy. Svetland A.

I thoroughly enjoyed Robert’s class. He taught me more about essential oils than I would have learned on my own in years. Maureen H.

The breadth of Robert’s knowledge in the field of essential oils is remarkable. He is a gift to those of us working with these gems of nature. But for me, even more importantly, he is an outstanding teacher; having knowledge is one thing, but being able to clearly and articulately impart it is another. He has both, and this indeed is what contributes to genius. Maren Good

For me, Robert Tisserand is the final word on essential oils, as well as the myth buster and the advocate. He’s also the most gentle and kind presenter I have come across. Sherrin Bernstein
